Physio, Complementary & Occupational Therapy

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is about care and rehabilitation.

A physiotherapist uses specialist assessment and therapeutic approaches to support all aspects of well-being, enabling patients to live as well and as fully as possible.

It may involve a combination of some or all of the following types of therapy/activity: movement and exercise; relaxation; mobility work; massage; and heat.

Additionally we always offer education and/or advice about how to look after yourself. The physiotherapist always aims to work cloesly with the patient's support team, including carers and family members.

If you think that it might be helpful for you/the person we are caring for to be seen by a physiotherapist, please discuss this with a member of staff.

Complementary Therapy

Complementary therapies are offered at the Hospice primarily to support psychological well-being. These are: theraputic massage; aromatherapy; reflexology, Indian head massage; and shiatsu.

These therapies are available to patients deemed appropriate in the Day Hospice, Clinic and Inpatient Unit, as well as to Family/Carers of Inpatients.

Treatments are provided by a team of well-qualified physiotherapists and volunteer complementary therapists, usually in one of our two private and relaxing treatment rooms.

If you think that you or your family member might benefit please ask to speak to one of the physiotherapists.

Occupational Therapy

Our occupational therapists see patients in the Hospice or in their own homes. Their aim is to enable patients to gain the most independence and best quality of life possible.

Our small team offers:

  1. Home assessments.
  2. Advice of lifestyle management.
  3. Education and support to patients and carers.

They may also be able to provide equipment for patients.
