Why is your Will important?

Your Will is a very personal document, your way of making sure that your final wishes are understood and carried out properly. Updating it is also vital to keep it relevant to your personal circumstances.

Make sure your wishes are carried out:

  • What happens to your property after death is important to everyone, no matter what the size of the estate.
  • When you die, your property and affairs will have to be looked after.

A Will is the only reliable way to ensure your wishes are carried out in the way you want, and provide for the people closest to you.

Making a Will is important, and so is updating it regularly:

  • Make sure that the people you love are provided for
  • If you do not leave an up to date will, your family and loved ones could face big financial and legal complications

Save tax on what you leave:

Any charitable gifts are free of tax. They are also deducted from the estate before tax is calculated. Therefore, if the total value of the remaining estate is below the threshold (£300,000 in 2008-9, or £600,000 for couples), there will be no inheritance tax due at all.
