Lawyers Team Up for Hospice’s First Ever Make a Will Week

July 30, 2010

A group of 11 generous solicitors have teamed up with Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice for the charity’s first ever Make a Will Week.

The initiative, which takes place between September 13 and 17 this year, gives participants the chance to make a will while supporting the Hospice, which provides vital palliative care to people with life-limiting illnesses across Birmingham and Sandwell.

Instead of paying a fee to the solicitor, the will maker, or testator, will be asked to make a donation to the Hospice.

Legal practices in Birmingham and the Black Country are taking part in the scheme, in order to make it as convenient as possible for people across the region served by the Hospice.

Participating solicitor Andrew Piddock, of Coley & Tilley Solicitors in Waterloo Street, Birmingham, was delighted to get involved with Make a Will Week.

“Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is a fantastic local cause making a real difference to people in our community who are experiencing very difficult circumstances. So Coley and Tilley are extremely happy to offer up our services to this initiative. I hope will-making business is brisk during September,” he said.

Caroline Taylor, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice’s Head of Fundraising, said writing a will gave people real peace of mind.

She said: “Knowing that your loved ones will be taken care of in accordance with your wishes is very important. But this September you will be able to do that with the added benefit of supporting your local hospice. I would urge anyone who is yet to make a will to take advantage of our Make a Will Week initiative.”

The suggested donation is £70 - £120 per will (mirror wills would be two donations). Solicitors in Birmingham city centre, Kings Heath, Selly Oak/Bournville, Cotteridge, Yardley, Shirley and Solihull, Rubery, Halesowen, and Redditch are taking part.
