Companies across Birmingham are being given a chance to escape the economic gloom with a night of laughter in aid of the city’s only independent adult hospice.
Birmingham St Mary's Hospice's first ever Comedy Night, featuring James Mullinger, Matt Green, Andrew Doyle, Tim Allen and Joe Rowntree, takes place on Wednesday, February 16, at The Jam House in St Paul's Square.
James Mullinger is described as ‘Jimmy Carr's comedy idol’, while Tim Allen and Joe Rowntree are getting laughs on TV's Brainiac and The TNT Show.
Andrew Doyle and Matt Green have gone down a storm at Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury and received rave reviews across the national press.
Head of Fundraising and Marketing Caroline Taylor said the event offered companies an excellent opportunity to take some time out from all the challenges facing them this year.
She said: “People are rightly concerned about the future at the moment, but it’s not good to let ourselves be overwhelmed. A night of laughter is a great way to unwind and take our minds off our worries.
“Our Comedy Night offers teams a great chance to share a laugh together amid the gloom, and it will make a real difference to people who really are experiencing difficulties through life-limiting illnesses.”
With less than half its funding from the NHS, Birmingham St Mary’s relies heavily on public goodwill to provide its services to people with life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer, motor neurone disease and MS.
Tickets for the show are £15. Doors open at 6pm, with proceedings beginning at 8.30pm. To book or for further information please telephone Yvonne McPhillips on 0121 472 1191 or email: events@bsmh.org.uk.
