Hot on the heels of Cher and Christina's hit movie Burlesque, Birmingham St Mary's Hospice is proud to announce an evening of similar delights this Spring.
Featuring five renowned performers - Cherryfox, Suzie Sequins, Ditzy Diamond, Felicia Noir and Twinkel Pink - Birmingham St Mary’s Burlesque Evening is set to be a night of glitz and glamour.
Money raised at the event on Sunday, March 27, will go directly to caring for families coping with life-limiting illness across Birmingham and Sandwell.
Audience members can expect a tasteful and classy evening of traditional cabaret acts at the show which takes place at the Chameleon Bar in Victoria Square, Birmingham city centre.
Hospice Head of Fundraising and Marketing Caroline Taylor said, “With the Burlesque craze sweeping the nation this year, we thought we’ve simply got to put on our own event. It’s a little bit different and we’re sure it’s going to attract a large audience of both men and women.
“We’re truly grateful to our five performers, the band and MC as well as the Chameleon Bar for helping make this night of traditional cabaret possible.”
Burlesque dancer Fran Broomhall aka Twinkel Pink said she was delighted to be performing in aid of Birmingham St Mary’s.
“I was born and bred in Birmingham so it’s a real honour for me to be able to perform in aid of our local hospice. We all know someone who has been touched by the work of Birmingham St Mary’s, so I hope there is a good turnout on the night. Between the five of us performing, I’m sure we’ll have a little something to entice the audience!” she said.
Management of the Chameleon Bar have offered the venue free of charge. Bar Manager Mikey Bourne said staff were looking forward to the Burlesque Evening.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to offer our venue up for such a good local cause, and having met one of the performers recently I know people are in for a very special night. They really do look amazing,” he said.
Fifties rockabilly legends the Magnificatz will set the mood and build anticipation ahead of the burlesque dancers, who will be compered by showman of renown Dr Agmemnon When.
Tickets cost £15 and are available from Yvonne McPhillips on 0121 472 1191 or at events@bsmh.org.uk. Doors open at 7.45pm for 8pm.
Since its launch in 1979, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice has cared for tens of thousands of people with life-limiting illnesses, such as cancer, motor neurone disease and MS.
With around 52 percent of the hospice’s budget reliant on public goodwill, community fundraising is crucial to ensuring its highly specialised services can continue to be offered to the people of Birmingham and Sandwell.
In addition to a 25-bed inpatient unit, Birmingham St Mary’s boasts a 20-place day hospice and provides community care to people who wish to stay in their own homes.
The hospice also supports relatives with bereavement preparation, physiotherapy tuition and counselling in addition to many other services.
Annual running costs stand at £6.3 million, with around £1 million being raised in the hospice’s shops and £2.7 million via fundraising. The remainder comes from the NHS.
